Direct Local Heritage
Our Story & Passion
We are born and raised in the mountain shadows of northern Tanzania. From the high volcanic crags of Kilimanjaro to the wildlife plains of the Serengeti, our journey began on the trail.
Local Roots
Crafted by the Guides Who Walk the Trails
Crest & Crag Tanzania Safaris was founded in Arusha with a simple mission: to connect travelers directly with certified local Tanzanian mountaineers and safari specialists, cutting out foreign agencies and middleman fees.
Every member of our field leadership started as a porter or assistant guide. Over years of climbing through changing alpine seasons, navigating the Barranco Wall, and guiding travelers from across the globe to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), we built an expedition style centered on safety, patience (pole pole), and authentic companionship.
“You don’t just conquer a mountain; you walk in harmony with it. Our role is to keep you safe, supported, and inspired every single step of the way.”
Today, our Arusha headquarters coordinates expeditions across Mount Kilimanjaro, Mount Meru, the Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, and the tropical coast of Zanzibar.
The Crest & Crag Standard
How We Guide Differently
We believe high-altitude trekking and African safaris should be deeply personal, safe, and ethically delivered for our guests, our crew, and the environment.
Certified Wilderness Responders
Every lead guide holds official Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification. We carry pulse-oximeters for twice-daily health checks and bottled emergency medical oxygen on every climb.
Fair Wages & Porter Welfare
Porters are the backbone of Kilimanjaro. We enforce strict load weight limits (max 20kg), provide warm sleeping gear, guarantee three hot nutritious daily meals, and pay above standard industry wages.
Leave No Trace & Conservation
We carry out all waste, minimize single-use plastics, and practice strict ecological standards in Tanzania’s national parks to protect fragile high-altitude ecosystems for future generations.
Fresh Mountain Nutrition
High-altitude exertion demands proper fuel. Our mountain chefs prepare hot, carbohydrate-rich, and wholesome meals daily—customized for vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free dietary needs.
Transparent 30% Booking Policy
No hidden extras or surprise fees on the trail. A straightforward 30% deposit secures official TANAPA park permits, hut allocations, and crew assignments, with balance due before departure.
Personalized Private Itineraries
Whether traveling solo, as a couple on honeymoon, or with family, we tailor route length, acclimatisation days, and pace to match your fitness and goals.
