Mount Meru Climb

Begin your Mount Meru adventure at Momella Gate inside Arusha National Park. Walk through open savannah and lush montane forest, accompanied by an armed park ranger with opportunities to encounter wildlife such as giraffes, buffaloes, warthogs, and black-and-white colobus monkeys. Continue through scenic forest canopies before arriving at Miriakamba Huts for a hot dinner and overnight rest.

Continue climbing through beautiful montane forest towards the giant heather and moorland zones. The trail becomes steeper as you approach Saddle Huts, rewarding you with spectacular views of Mount Meru's massive volcanic crater and Ash Cone. In the afternoon, embark on an optional acclimatization hike up to Little Meru (3,820m) for panoramic sunset views before returning to Saddle Huts for dinner and early rest.

Start your summit push around midnight. Ascend steep rocky switchbacks towards Rhino Point and Cobra Point before traversing the dramatic, narrow volcanic crater rim to Socialist Peak (4,566m)—the true summit of Mount Meru. Reach the peak around sunrise and witness breathtaking views across northern Tanzania, with Mount Kilimanjaro rising above the clouds to the east. After celebrating at the summit, descend back to Saddle Huts for brunch, pack your gear, and continue all the way down to Miriakamba Huts for the night.

After a hearty breakfast, begin your final gentle descent through the montane forest towards Momella Gate. Enjoy the peaceful natural scenery, waterfalls, and chances to spot grazing wildlife along the lower slopes. At Momella Gate, receive your official Mount Meru summit certificates, say farewell to your mountain crew, meet your private transfer vehicle, and return to your hotel in Arusha or Moshi.
